Starting Off Our Great Journey, We Are Hitting the Road!

The Survey and Research Center for China Household Finance successfully holds its 2015 Opening Ceremony: starting off our great journey, we are hitting the road!

On the morning of July 5, the opening ceremony for the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS), China Micro Enterprise Survey (CMES), and CCT program was held in the Student Center at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE). Those in attendance included Xue Li, deputy director of the Office of the President; Dongliang Lei, vice minister of the United Work Front Propaganda Department; Zuoliang Ye, vice dean of graduate studies; Wen Huang, deputy secretary; Dr. Li Gan, dean of the Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM) and director of the Survey and Research Center for China Household Finance (“the Center”); and more than 800 students.


By 9:00 am, a number of students had gathered at the Student Center door to sign their names on a banner in colorful ink with youthful enthusiasm.


The opening ceremony began at 9:30 am and Dr. Gan gave the opening remarks. He conveyed Party Secretary of the University Dewu Zhao’s words of encouragement to the participating students: “The survey is a big event  which the school fully supports. I hope the students that participate in the activity will not fear the difficulties or troubles they will face as they collect the survey data. I also hope that they will understand the condition of society as well as their social responsibility while doing this. Good luck to all of the teachers and students; I hope that the survey will be very successful!” Dr. Gan then presented a review of the Center’s six years of activities and announced the commencement of the opening ceremony.


Xue Li, Dongliang Lei, Zuoliang Ye, Wen Huang, and other school officials gave messages to the students for them to carry on during the first round of the new, larger 2015 survey.


Next, deputy directors of the Center Jijun Tan and Nan Jia as well as  Xin He, director of the Survey Implementation Department , provided introductions to the origin, implementation, data collection, methodology, etc. of CMES, the CCT project and CHFS survey.


Next, students who were involved in  previous offsite Center projects sent recorded greetings to the ceremony.


Finally, Yanbing Fang, head teacher for the Survey, gave a speech expressing the requirements and expectations to the students who would be participating in the new round of the survey.


In 2015, CHFS, CMES, CCT, and other programs are expected to send more than 2,000 students (from SWUFE and from other universities) to participate in data collection. There will be a total sample size of 45,000 households from 29 provinces and municipalities (excluding Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). Starting off our great journey, we are hitting the road!
